Artists mingle at Make-Up Artist Mixer with Bobbi Brown

Manhattan’s Webster Hall looked pretty in pink at the Big Apple Make-Up Artist Mixer, held May 14 and sponsored by Make-Up Artist magazine and Naimie’s Beauty Center. Bouquets of pink peonies and pink hydrangeas dotted the room where celebrity make-up artist Bobbi Brown and her staff joined the magazine staff, Naimie’s owner Sam Bekerian and professional make-up artists from New York and New Jersey at a cocktail party and booksigning for Brown’s Makeup Manual. (continued below)

Midway through the evening, Brown took the stage for a short presentation. “I’m honored to be in a room full of professional make-up artists,” she said. “I’m a make-up artist—I still love doing make-up.” She discussed her career and her latest venture, Bobbi Brown University, a college make-up program run in conjunction with Montclair University and her alma mater, Emerson College. Brown then fielded questions from guests (to a query about how she remains accessible, Brown joked, “I’m not that accessible.”), before signing books and chatting with a long line of fans, some of whom had driven from as far away as Washington, D.C. to attend the event.

For more photos from the party, see Issue 79 of Make-Up Artist magazine.

Web Exclusive: Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Young Hellboy
From a make-up perspective, the first major character to appear in Hellboy 2 is a younger version of the hero, seen in a 1955 prologue with Professor Broom (John Hurt). The Young Hellboy character was created by the Barcelona-based company DDT Efectos Especiales and played in a gender-bending twist by the company’s Montse Ribé.
