| Makeup & Effects Lab Names Kevin Haney Partner |
 |
 |
Posted: Monday February 15, 2010 Make-Up Artist magazine
Makeup & Effects Lab, a North Hollywood-based shop specializing in animatronics, special make-up effects and other services, announced Feb. 15 that Oscar®- and Emmy®-winning artist Kevin Haney had been made a partner in the business. According to MEL partner Allan Apone, "[Haney] will add another level of expertise to Makeup & Effects Lab. And working with a friend is always really great. Kevin and I, for the last few years, have always talked about doing stuff together. This will elevate us from a support house to a main house for make-up effects." Haney's primary responsibilities will be bidding on jobs and researching and developing new products and techniques. "It's really no different from what I’m doing now," Haney said. "This is a combination of two people who think alike working together on a variety of products and projects. It'll free me up to be more creative. Between the two of us, our résumé together covers a wider variety of things." Haney's career began in 1978, when he assisted Dick Smith on Altered States. Over the years, he has worked on Saturday Night Live, Dick Tracy and Driving Miss Daisy (for which he won an Oscar®) and created numerous prosthetic make-ups for actors Martin Short and Steve Bridges, among others.
The partnership was made effective immediately. |

Web Exclusive: Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Young Hellboy - Monday August 04, 2008 |
| From a make-up perspective, the first major character to appear in Hellboy 2 is
a younger version of the hero, seen in a 1955 prologue with Professor
Broom (John Hurt). The Young Hellboy character was created by the
Barcelona-based company DDT Efectos Especiales and played in a
gender-bending twist by the company’s Montse Ribé. |
