At Make-Up Artist magazine, we know you’ve worked hard to get where you are, and we want to recognize that with our Make-Up Artist Pro Card. The card—available to professional make-up artists— will provide you with multiple privileges and perks throughout the year.

Our New Pro Card Application System

Our new Pro Card management system has a number of new features that will allow us to serve you better. Please send any feedback to pro@makeupmag.com if you encounter any issues or have any suggestions.

PLEASE NOTE: Applications can take 4 to 6 weeks to process.

How to Apply

  1. Create an account
  2. Complete the application
  3. Be patient (we carefully review each application)
  4. Once approved, you’ll have access to your profile with news, events and offers specific to Make-Up Artist Pro-Card holders.

How to Renew

  1. Log in to your old account.
    • If your card was issued before December 2016, you may need to click “Lost your password?” for a temporary password to be sent to your original email address.  After doing that, go to your email inbox, click the link and add a new password.
  2. Once you are logged in, click the “Renew” button under “Your Card” and follow the instructions.

The Student Card is for current or recently graduated students at recognized make-up schools. Recognized make-up schools have a physical location, have been open for at least a year and offer at least 100 class hours of make-up training. Online courses do not qualify.

REQUIREMENTS: Government-issued photo ID (e.g., passport or driver’s license) and current, detailed proof of make-up student enrollment with the school name, courses being taken, and dates enrolled in make-up school.


The Blue Card is for professional estheticians, cosmetologists, bridal make-up artists or cosmetic sales associates.*

REQUIREMENTS: You are required to submit a government-issued photo ID (e.g., passport or driver’s license) AND one of the following:

  1. Copy of your esthetician/cosmetology license
  2. A make-up-related résumé/cv and current pay stub from a make-up company showing employment within the last six months*
  3. A make-up-related résumé/cv and three additional documents from the list below.

APPROVED CREDENTIALS: Current dedicated website showcasing your work (blogs and social networking sites—such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook—will not be accepted), diploma/certificate from a recognized make-up academy, signed bridal contracts, copies of paychecks for make-up work done or other proof of doing bridal make-up as a profession.

PLEASE NOTE: Discount cosmetic cards and personal business cards/brochures are not considered part of our approved credentials.

*We currently do not have a seperate application for cosmetic sales associates.  Please apply as a “other” with your documentation requirements.  You can repeat uploads to move on to the next page.


The Standard Card is for media make-up artists who work in print, film, theater, television, and/or runway. You are required to submit a government-issued photo ID (e.g., passport or driver’s license), a make-up-related résumé/cv and three different documents from the list below.

REQUIREMENTS: Current dedicated website showcasing your work (blogs and social networking sites—such as Twitter, Instagram and Facebook—will not be accepted), diploma/certificate from a recognized make-up academy, recent editorial page with name credit, program/press materials listing your name, recent contract on production company letterhead, recent pay stub from a production company, recent crew/call list on production company letterhead, IMDB listing, or any other document proving you are a working professional make-up artist.

PLEASE NOTE: Discount cosmetic cards and personal business cards/brochures are not considered part of our approved credentials.


The Gold Card is exclusively for professional make-up artists affiliated with a trade union, represented by an approved agency, working in an approved make-up effects shop or working in professional theater productions. You are required to submit a government-issued photo ID (e.g., passport or driver’s license) and one of the following:

REQUIREMENTS: A copy of your union card from IATSE 798,706, 873, 891 or NABET, link to a personal profile on an agency website (please see pull-down menu in application for approved list), proof of employment for 1 year or more at a make-up effects shop, or a signed contract or pay stub from an approved professional theater company.  

PLEASE NOTEBECTU membership no longer qualifies for a Gold Card.

All Make-Up Artist Pro Cards are the property of Key Publishing Group and are provided for professional identification purposes and access to select services and products related to Make-Up Artist magazine, IMATS and its affiliates. The card is non-transferable and is valid for two years from date of issuance, at which point cardholders are welcome to renew their memberships. Any misuse, alteration or fabrication of the card will subject the cardholder to revocation of the card and its benefits. Revocation policy will be enforced at the sole discretion of Key Publishing Group.
